Finals are Over

I was going to post this last week but the back-end was down.

So yeah, it’s been a little while for me. Between finals and final projects I had room for none of my normal extracurricular, a category that would normally not even include this but, hey, Datacomm happens. For many people in the Datacomm option, even Sleeping is an extracurricular. Not that it wasn’t still rewarding; I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t think I was getting something good out of it. But damn was it a time-and-energy drain.

So now that I’m done why don’t I go over my finals from this round of classes. OS, Web Development, Computer Graphics, Datacomm (x2) and BLaw (all in no particular order). That’s 6 exams spread over 2 weeks, with the culmination of 3 months of a class-wide project nudged in there between tests number 2 and 3. It’s also not mentioning the half-dozen other assignments that needed to be finished the week before this circus started.

And that’s where I’ve been the last month.

Seriously though, while I am nowhere near well rested yet, I have some seriously stress relief just having all that stuff behind me. And a sudden relative boon of free time! Meaning that I also have room to put stuff like this or this again! (Yay!!) But also meaning that I can catch up on things like this blog and updating my resume and stuff (less exciting but a lot more practical).

Of course, that does not mean that I’m done at BCIT. Far from it in fact! The program I am in, CST, has a 6-week mini-term pinned to the end of each spring semester for projects and portfolio. Most people think it’s a little silly (I’m paraphrasing) and if you’re all set up for a job going out, it honestly probably is. But it’s also a  good opportunity for more (team)work experience and, well, portfolio building. What’s more, and I don’t think this part can really be emphasized enough, it forces me and everyone else in the program to take a freaking break without letting up on the professional development.

One last thing to finish of the reunion ramble: Option Talks. These are primarily for 1st and 2nd term CST students who aren’t sure which option they want to go into but, if you are in CST (or hell, even considering going into it) then I STRONGLY recommend you attend as many of them as possible. The Datacomm one is next week (and I’ll be there), the rest are probably mostly next week as well. To reiterate, if you are a CST student, GO TO THEM ALL. Even if you know exactly which option you want to go into do it anyway. I guarantee you will learn new things about each option that will help you when you go into your third term.

Anyway that’s all for today, so until next time, have a great week!
